Edmonton Oilers’ Darnell Nurse Proud of Cousin Sarah’s Olympic Hockey Gold

Darnell Nurse's cousin, Sarah Nurse, won a gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics with the Canadian national ice hockey team.

Sarah Nurse, a 25-year-old forward, also won a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

On the eve of the Stanley Cup Finals, Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse showered praise on his cousin.

"She's an incredible player and an even better person," Nurse said. "I'm so proud of everything she's accomplished."

Sarah Nurse is a 5-foot-8, 140-pound left wing who won gold with the Canadian national women's hockey team at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

She also won a silver medal with the team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Darnell Nurse is a 27-year-old defenseman who has played for the Oilers since 2014.

He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, having won the title with the Oilers in 2017 and 2019.

Darnell Nurse said he was inspired by his cousin's success.

"She's always been a role model for me," he said.

Darnell Nurse is not the only athlete in his family. His father, Richard, is a former NHL player. His brother, Kia, is a former professional basketball player.
